Learn more efficiently and replace traditional tests with SlimStampen

SlimStampen is an adaptive learning system that makes learning ready knowledge faster and simpler. Our system creates a computer model of the memory for each user and uses it to determine the optimal learning process for everyone.

The SlimStampen method is based on scientific research in cognitive psychology. Several studies show that learning with SlimStampen leads to better results compared to non-adaptive learning methods: efficiency increases up to 10% (van Rijn et al., 2009; Sense et al., 2016). This way, students never spend more time learning ready knowledge than necessary.

Because the system creates a computer model of each student's memory, it can estimate very accurately which information the student has mastered sufficiently (Sense et al., 2016). This allows SlimStampen to supplement or replace traditional tests.

How does the adaptive learning algorithm work?

Maintaining learning data in an internal computer model

For each student, SlimStampen creates a computer model of memory. While learning with SlimStampen, the system measures how fast and how accurate the user's responses are. Responses during learning are used to build an intelligent computer model of the learners' memory.

Calculating activation

The faster a student can give a correct answer, the better the student knows a fact. When someone knows a fact better, the fact has a higher activation in memory. In other words, an active fact is faster and more easily retrieved from memory.

For fast, correct answers, the student is more likely to remember the fact, but for incorrect or slow answers, this likelihood is lower.

Repeat information when you are about to forget it

Facts that a user does not yet know very well are repeated faster and more frequently by the SlimStampen system than facts that the user has successfully memorized. The best moment of repetition is determined for each question. This results in a learning process that is optimal for each individual user.

The red line indicates the activation of a fact in memory

If the activation falls below the dotted blue line, the fact is forgotten

Each black dot represents the repetition of a fact

Memory model used by the SlimStampen learning system.

If the activation of a fact in memory (red line) is high, there is a good chance that the student will be able to reproduce the fact well immediately afterwards.

After the first time a fact has been learned, the activation in memory drops rapidly, because the student does not yet know the fact very well. After a while, the student has forgotten the fact. The more often the fact is repeated (black dots), the longer it takes the student to forget the fact.

The SlimStampen algorithm estimates and adjusts the “rate-of-forgetting” by measuring student reaction times. Then SlimStampen presents facts just before the learner will forget the facts. This results in optimal learning efficiency.

Enrich your teaching method

SlimStampen is based on the latest scientific insights in the field of learning and learning technology. SlimStampen can ensure that your teaching method is at the forefront of digital learning. SlimStampen is ideally suited for learning declarative or factual information, such as:

Vocabulary & Definitions

With SlimStampen you can learn words and sentences in all languages. In addition, SlimStampen is suitable for learning definitions and concepts from your own teaching material.

Pictures & Topography

In SlimStampen you have the option to use pictures to learn things like anatomy, piano keys or constellations. In addition, you have the opportunity to learn countries, cities and villages.

These learning methods are supported:

Open & Multiple Choice Questions

With your own creativity, you can combine these methods to create essay questions, pronunciation, and multiple choice lessons.

Audio & Pronunciation

You have the option of using audio fragments as a question (the cue) or answer. In addition, you can speak in different languages and have vocabulary read aloud to practice pronunciation.

Mastery credits make traditional testing obsolete

SlimStampen keeps track of the extent to which a student has mastered the facts throughout the learning process, instead of taking a snapshot. Different learning parameters are summarized in one measure: the mastery credit. If a student has obtained a mastery credit, there is a good chance that the student will not forget the materials. SlimStampen thus provides better insight into the knowledge level of the student than a traditional test.

Keep track of your own statistics

Users can also view their own statistics. For example, SlimStampen keeps track of how well a student already knows each word, users receive an overview of the learning session at the end of the lesson, and users can always review how previous learning sessions went.

Group overview of learning performance

Teachers who use SlimStampen can see the progress of all their students at a glance. This allows a teacher to determine which students or which materials need more attention.

Create and share lessons

SlimStampen offers the possibility to create your own lessons and share them with a group of students.

SlimStampen values the privacy of users. That is why we only process data that is necessary for generating adaptive learning schedules and we handle the information we have collected with great care. Data is never made available to third parties for commercial purposes.
